There are many reasons why you may want to prepare emergency food storage. Since the pandemic, many people have been worried and are preparing for the unexpected. A lot of people are stockpiling supplies in their basement in case The Walking Dead becomes reality. Depending on your geographical location, The Day After Tomorrow might just be the result of a natural disaster—but with a lot less Jake Gyllenhaal.
Whether you are preparing for an economic crash, a famine, or the apocalypse itself, ensuring your emergency food supply is ready to go should be one of your first steps. Aside from an adequate supply of water (1 gallon per person/pet per day), food is the most important item you'll need to survive.
When you're stockpiling non-perishable food, you have a wide range of options, but you always want to consider the shelf-life and nutritional value of the food you're considering. You might be having trouble deciding where to start, so let us assist you with this list of tips. These pointers can serve as a great starting point when creating custom emergency food preparations
Tips for Emergency Food
Prepping
We recommend starting with some basics, including some top-of-the-line products from ALL MRE's. Whether you're stocking up on freeze-dried fruit with a shelf life of 10–15 years, or freeze-dried vegetables and sides, you'll know you're getting quality food that’ll make you say, “Hey, this end of the world thing ain’t too bad.”
Short-Term Emergency Prepping
n the short-term, canned goods are an excellent choice. Not to mention it’s easy to stock up on canned goods when you’re at the store. Chances are you’re already picking up some canned meat or vegetables, so just pick up an extra can or two while you’re at it. Don’t forget to pick up a few cans of pet food to keep Fido and Sylvester from eying up the family two weeks into the apocalypse.
We also recommend stocking up on items that can give you extra energy, such as peanut butter, nuts, and granola. In the ALL MRE’s shop, we carry energy bars in chocolate or cran-raspberry which has the nutritional value of a full day’s worth of food. For families, stocking up on powdered milk is a good idea, as well as any items for those with special dietary needs.
Long-Term Emergency Prepping
In the event you are isolated for more than a week or two, you'll wish to be prepared with longer-term food items. One of the number one choices for this is MREs (Meals Ready to Eat).
The average person can survive on one 1,100–1,200 calorie MRE a day. Still, it's never a bad idea to prepare two a day per person, in case of unforeseen exertion. If you live in the US, ALL MRE’s is a great place to stock up for the long haul.
The ALL MRE’s shop has a large selection of MRE’s Z-Ration, Prospector MRE, and 24 Hour MRE’s, and Military MREs. One of our more popular MREs’ is the MRE Z-Ration (Zombie MRE) Custom Menu’s A-Z. Each Z-Ration features an entrée, snack(s), dessert(s), drink(s), utensil pack, a moist towelette, ration-htr, a bonus McIlhenny MINI Tabasco Sauce and Zombie gummies!
For something a bit more long-term, we recommend The Horde 48 Hour MRE Ration Survival Kit. You choose what food goes into your "Hunter," which is a full 2-day meal plan, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Dessert choices are separate from breakfast desserts, which include either two maple muffin tops, two chocolate banana nut muffin tops, or a combination of both depending on inventory.
Whatever type of situation you are preparing for, All MRE’s has your back. If you’re looking for more tips and information about storing food for an emergency, feel free to contact us! And don’t forget to check out the rest of our products in our store.
